New weapon fights invasive grasses

But that’s about to change, thanks to the launch of a new herbicide from Arysta LifeScience.

It says X-it Grass is an innovative new tool for invasive grasses such as pampas, tussock, needle and marram grass, bamboo and others.

It’s a a ready-to-use oil-based premix herbicide that eliminates the need for labour intensive grubbing.

“The downside of grubbing as a control method is it is physically demanding, expensive and time consuming,” says Darren Faire, Arysta LifeScience marketing and business development manager.

“A great benefit of X-it Grass is that it kills problem grass weeds in-situ. You don’t create a soil disturbance where grasses can reestablish.”

That means X-it Grass provides an efficient, convenient and cost-effective option for many problem grass weed species on the conservation estate, Faire points out.

Designed for targeted, spot spray application to treat the basal shoots of grass weeds, it offers flexibility around application timing.

It can be applied to damp or dry grasses and can be used at any time of the year; treated grasses must be actively growing, though, for them to die i.e. grasses treated in winter will only die when they start to grow in the spring.

X-it Grass will be available in a 20 litre container as a ready-to-use formulation.
