New insecticide available

As well as being recommended for use against tomato-potato psyllid (TPP) on potatoes, Invert EW is registered for control of leafroller on kiwifruit and mites on avocados, indoor tomatoes, strawberries and ornamentals.
The new product contains 16 g per litre abamectin in the form of an oil in water emulsion and offers growers another choice when it comes to planning their crop protection programmes.
Several seasons of local trial work on a range of crops have demonstrated Invert’s excellent knock-down and crop-safe characteristics, Agronica says.
Key recommendations for use include correct timing - because it has a translaminar mode of action, uptake of the active is quickest in young leaves and less effective on older leaves later in the season.
This timing is also important because insect population pressure has less time to build up early in the season, the company says.
Because it is not systemic in the plant, thorough coverage is essential and growers should use higher water rates.
Invert EW is compatible with IPM programmes using the predator mites Typhlodromus pyri, Phytoseiulus persimilis and T.occidentalis, although it may suppress numbers temporarily.
